Becoming a park ranger …
Is a bit like dying and going to Heaven.
Not sure where working the visitor center fits in.
This song was inspired and can be considered a cover of the Bob Dylan song Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again. Why that song? One, I could play the chords. Two, the overall theme of the original song was a perfect fit. I originally sung the sung at the Brass Tap tavern in Fort Myers in the summer of 2019 as a farewell song to a long-time ranger and good friend who worked the visitor center of Big Cypress National Preserve at Oasis. It’s a remote station but also right in front of a road called the Tamiami Trail. Visitor centers attract an eclectic crowd. Like any job, doing the same thing over and over can become a bore, especially when you’re stuck inside a wayside that celebrates the great outdoors. Rudi was a bit of a historian, and quite a good one at that, thus any free time he got he was always diving into the history books. Rudi probably traveled more in those books than anybody whose ever trekked across the Big Cypress Swamp.
