Nature dreams

There Goes Bob Three

Words and music by Bobby Angel

Going up to read the writing on the wall, etched in blood by the scratch of a claw. When he got to where it was, the only thing he saw was water filling slowly in the print of his paw.

Gotta turn quick to see,

There goes Bob 3.

Listen closely to the ivory bill weep, in the middle of the night it will bring you to your feet. Tip toe to the window, then listens to the crickets cheep. They say go where your going, take what you wanna keep

Fifty years since its been heard,

Now there goes Bob the Third.

No time to second guess the price of a sparrow, or the life of an stork brought down by an arrow, and all bets are off when the match of Nero burns it all down, takes it all back to zero

Nothing comes for free,

And now there goes Bob T.

Sometimes I have a small passing thought that the trouble nowadays is watching what we fought being frittered away over time by default by bulldozers that no human force can halt.

Engines are all gased and lubed,

There goes Bob Cubed

Take a deep breath, swallow it all in. Ospreys got a fish, its flapping its fin. Going to his nest, going back to his kin. Never did nothing not worth trying again. Like a bird flying free …

There goes Bob 3D

Empty swamp

Mass Exodus (from the Swamp)

Words and music by Bobby Angel

I remember the days of many but panthers were just a few.Ā  That’s why I’m cryin’ even though panthers are plenty because I’m gonna really miss each and every one of you. For example Dusty Torre.Ā  He had a really thick skin.Ā  Some people’ll remember his dirty looks but me I’ll remember his gap-toothed grin. Or how about Wynn Carney? He had a boat he took on the sea.Ā  It took me a while to forgive him for whatever he did or didn’t do with the L-28 key. Or Melissa Olsen how she was a travelin’ fool. Hold tight to your passport! That’s your new golden rule. Or Pat Kenney?Ā  Yes I know he left long ago, but I still see and hear his voice in the halls. It’s true I have a problem letting go.

Remember your first day when everything was shiny and new.  Now everyone’s a little older and the swamp will be a little colder because we’re gonna miss each and every one of you.

Melissa she was a birder.Ā  She liked to count them in the trees and listen to them call to her in the Big Cypress breeze. Or David Adams – a Kemosabe all the way.Ā  How even when it was shitty he’d say ā€œIt’s a beautiful day!ā€ Or Pedro Ramos.Ā  He was the big fish of Deep Lake.Ā  Now he’s swam across the pond to open the glades to more water gates. How about Noreen she was the UPS package queen.Ā  No matter how bad the story, not even close to the worse she’s seen.

Remember how it started when you saw it all with fresh eyes.  Now everything is changing and your life will be rearranging.  Nobody said it would ever be easy to say goodbye

Then there’s Jim Snyder He already got a song.Ā  Not gonna give you a copy, don’t wanna know what I did wrong. Or Chris Derman He had a long running stride.Ā  Enjoyed kale in his smoothies and put up a lot of interpretation signs. Or Craig Davis, he was a MSU fan through and through.Ā  Now the second best school in Michigan that Coach Harbaugh took over at the U. Or Jim Burch and all them tricks up his sleeves.Ā  Still up there in his office.Ā  Gonna take more than not paying him to make him leave.

I remember fondly all the good times we had and even though you’re going you were definitely worth knowing and that your off to greener pastures I am glad.

Oh and can’t forget Betty and them big eyes and bright smile.Ā  How’d we all line up at her desk to ask her questions single file. Or the time she said ā€œThank you kindly,ā€ she always said it so kind.Ā  I’m gonna tape it the next time she says it so I can play it back in my mind. I’ll never forget you ever I promise through and through.Ā  You’ll always be a friend even if our paths never cross again.Ā  Like a sister I’m your brother they can replace you but they’ll never be no other …

I’m really gonna miss you!

Big Mountain

You wouldn't believe it.

In the 1850s, a man named Aaron Cloud, one of the town’s first dreamers, raised a 160-foot wooden tower at the summit.

Multi-trick pilot

Pilot of Many Talents

Words and music by Bobby Angel

ā€œSafety briefing, manifest, extinguisher’s on the wall. Seatbelts are fastened,ā€ and then in he made his call. By the look on his face I could tell that he missed me as we poured back some shots of Six Romeo Whiskey. His Man Card was long, but he’d never boast. He didn’t like to spread too much butter on that toast. “Don’t need no Garmin or iPhone tool.” He got where he was going using visual rules. Heard him before I saw him there, taller than the pine trees, five hundred feet in the air. ā€œGather what you got, get ready for the ride.ā€ Next thing I knew we were flying 5 Miles downstream through crystal blue sky

He wasn’t a mercenary, nor was he cheap to rent, but trust me when I say he was worth every cent

He was a pilot of many talents

ā€œDriving on asphalt is slow as molasses. I know a shortcut, I’ll meet you at Oasis.” Safe and sound and fashionably late. He landed soft as a feather using Auto-Rotate. He said pigs aren’t a problem, panthers took care of that. Don’t mean there ain’t a IHOG breathing down myback. When will we return, said he couldn’t say. He works in a different space and time where there’s 8 weeks in a day. ā€œSee them tractor trailers, they really look like ants, an that ORV trail remind me of a giant pair of corduroy pants.ā€ ā€œA flock of Ivory Bills!ā€ Then we heard a thump … Don’t worry about that, it’s just a hydro flight getting bumped.

Some people said he had a sixth sense, but it was the 7th, 8th, 9th, and tenth

That made him  a pilot with many talents

Somebody shouted, “We got fire in the hills.” Don’t worry about that, I know a man named Bill. We’ll raise him on the radio or put a pie on the ledge. ā€œDid you know that botanologically sawgrass is a sedge?ā€ Fire spread quick, everyone ran for cover.ā€œ This thing is rapidly turning into one big mother!ā€ ā€œGet me some more buckets, top ā€˜em up high. If you ever saw the movie you’d know Bambi wasn’t a girl but a guy.ā€ It was mutiny in the swamp when he said that he’d retire. It was 105 heat index but I swear he didn’t even perspire. Young bucks all around him were getting ready to fade. ā€œYou gotta pump a lot of iron if you don’t stand in the shade.”

Pacing back and forth, General’s in his tent, smiling at his order that only one man be sent

He was a pilot of many talents

He won’t eat no Twinkie, says raisins are healthier fare. Once he was tied down by some skunk apes and he didn’t even scare. Then up from the pond apple came a python snake he fended it off with a chocolate Hostess Cup Cake. Then it got away, it slithered ā€˜round the bend. He followed it waste deep until bitter end. But he didn’t give up, then Plan B rang like a Bell as he checked into the second floor at Two Bravo Hotel. Didn’t believe in legends, ā€œThat’s a bunch of baloney,ā€ until he was rescued by midgets on a herd of tiny ponies. They took him to their hideout where they light a lamp. ā€œI always wondered about this place, I thought it was a trespass camp.ā€

Could go either way, it was a mission in the balance. Braver than the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

He was a pilot of many talents

Some people knew him as the Eye in the Sky, but we all knew him just as one laid back guy. He’d go up and over, more than I ever deserved. His favorite type of jam was saw palmetto preserves. How many flight hours? He wouldn’t fathom a guess. Gators can’t remember but we we’ll never forget. ā€œYou do what you do, I’d even do it for nada. Now I’m sitting in Islamorada sipping on a pina colada.ā€ He was very magnamonious, he’d never pick a side, or at least he’d never show his hand when he took you for a ride. He knew if he did, it would probably cause a skism. ā€œLet’s leave it that I like to work with all the people in every division.ā€

Sometimes I thank God for all the angels he sent, but there was one who was more equal than all the rest

He was a pilot of many talents
