David Moody Blues
Words and music by Bobby Angel
The world’s kind of funny. It gets stranger and stranger by the day. I see its less and less like a football. It’s more and more like a stack of hay. You do with it what you want to. There are many straws for you to take, but you can’t be wasting time looking for the needle, ’cause you gotta keep your eye on the lucky break
So I’m going off to where I’m going, I’ll wave farewell around the bend
I got a plan and it’s quite a-plenty. I’ll run it ‘til it meets its end
Ochopee can get sort of lonely you know. I’ve seen ‘em come in and I’ve seen ‘em leave. Somewhere in there I became an old timer. Never thought that I’d see it happen to Steve. But all men’s days are numbered. If it ain’t days, then its months or its years. You gotta do what you gotta to prepare for it but also learn to let go when the day it draws near
So I’m going off to where I’m going, I’ll wave farewell around the bend
I’ll miss you all quite a-plenty. I wish to see you all again
I wonder what they’re doing. If they made it big or are settled down. And if that is what they wanted. Or if it’s only what they found. My mama said to me “David be friendly.” My pa said “son go out and do good.” Me I look at the bright side and am humble, and occasionally I knock on wood
So I’m going off to where I’m going, I’ll wave farewell around the bend
As I go I see a-plenty. All the lessons they never end.
Working out here all day I see mirages, visions of swamp beauties creeping in. Standing knee deep in the water, I feel I’m on a swampy stage in a big city stage. A logger or two might still be out here, or maybe a farmer searching for his lost hog. Me I got to get moving, before my brain gets too water logged
So I’m going of to where I’m going, I’ll wave farewell around the bend
The road to glory is just up yonder, I’ll ride it ‘til it meets its end
